Gardner, Jeter, Cano, Teixeira Candidates for AL Golden Glove Awards

In his breakout season, Brett Gardner was nominated for an AL Golden Glove Award along with Derek Jeter, Mark Teixeira and Robinson Cano. Here are the stats for each player nominated

Mark Teixeira: 3 errors, 121 DP’s (Double Plays) & 4.0 UZR (Ultimate Zone Rating)

Derek Jeter: 6 errors, 92 DP’s & -4.7 UZR

Robinson Cano: 3 errors, 107 DP’s, -0.6 UZR

Brett Gardner: 1 error, 12 assists, 21.9 UZR

Now in my opinion, Gardner put up some breakout numbers, which will make the Yankees more comfortable not to trade him to another team. Mark Teixeira had an up and down year, but only making 3 errors in approximately 160 games isn’t bad at all (He missed time for the birth of his son). Jeter, I believe he is still good at defense, but his power is diminishing in offense and Robinson Cano a Golden Glove Winner from before has a very good chance at doing it again.

I predict that each of them will win a Golden Glove including Gardner, whose competition’s numbers can nowhere compete with his. Here’s the competition for Mark Teixeira, Derek Jeter, Robbie Cano and Brett Gardner.

First Baseman

Daric Barton (Oakland Athletics): 10 errors, 119 DP’s, 4.0 UZR
Lyle Overbay (Toronto Blue Jays): 6 errors, 139 DP’s 0.9 UZR

Second Baseman

Orlando Hudson (Minnesota Twins): 8 errors, 72 DP’s, 9.8 UZR
Mark Ellis (Oakland Athletics): 3 errors, 71 DP’s, 9.8 UZR
Sean Rodriguez (Tampa Bay Rays): 6 errors, 52 DP’s, 3.5 UZR

J.J Hardy (Minnesota Twins):11 errors, 56 DP’s, 8.8 UZR
Cliff Pennington (
Oakland Athletics): 25 errors, 93 DP’s, 9.9 UZR
Alexei Ramirez (Chicago White Sox)
: 20 errors, 101 DP’s, 10.8 UZR

Tori Hunter (Los Angeles Angels Of Anaheim): 3 errors, 4 assists, -2.2 UZR
Adam Jones (Baltimore Orioles): 7 errors, 12 assists, -5.0 UZR
Ichiro Suzuki (Seattle Mariners): 4 errors, 7 assists, 15.6 UZR
Carl Crawford (Tampa Bay Rays): 2 errors, 7 assists, 18.5 UZR
Austin Jackson (Detroit Tigers): 6 errors, 9 assists, 5.4 UZR

So now the question is, who do you think will win the Golden Glove Awards, now that we know the 4 Yankees competition. Will Gardner take a Golden Glove home? Will someone win the Golden Glove for shortstop other than Derek Jeter? Leave your guesses in the comments below.
